Date Night #114: The Best Things to do This Week

Jessica Coyle/ Leave a Comment/ 11326

Whew! Spring is in full swing! Of course we’ve got a basket of enjoyables for you to take part in as a response, from a game show chock full of prizes to a dance party to alcoholic ice cream. Enjoy!

Fri 5: GAME SHOW

Threes Brewing 333 Douglas Street, Brooklyn, 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM, $5
blog1I don’t know exactly how, but I know approximately 323,734 people who have been on Who Wants to be a Millionaire. I will never be on that show, because I am dingdong whose trivia knowledge is vast when not wanted but useless when called upon. I COULD however, possibly be on this twisted game show, in which contestants compete for prizes in twisted versions of all the classics. So could you!

Fri 5: This Party Is Killing You: A Night of All Robyn Everything

Brooklyn Bowl, 61 Wythe Ave, 11:30 PM – 2:30 AM, $10
blog2For some reason, I always get Robyn and Sia completely mixed up. Well, I guess the reason could be that they’re both very Nordic-looking slender white ladies with white hair who sing club music I enjoy. Either way, Robyn or Sia, they’re both fabulous and a night of dancing your ass off to Dancing On My Own and Call Your Girlfriend (but NOT Elastic Heart) sounds like a pretty perfect Friday.

Sat 5: The People’s Garden Fund Kickoff Party

The People’s Garden, Greene Avenue and Broadway, Brooklyn, 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM, $what you can
blog3The People’s Garden is a community space where people gather to feel a little bit of nature around them, chat with their neighbors, and build community together. Now’s a good time to support them, as they raise funds for their 2017 season. What a great way to do it, with a whole-day party! There will be belly dancing, live band karaoke, face painting, salsa, and dreams coming true.

Sat 6: Grab ’em by DeBussy

Good Shepherd-Faith Presbyterian Church, 52 W 66th St, 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM, $10/$20
blog3“Jessica, how much of your interest in this event is because of its title and the fact that a show with this title is at a church?” “I don’t have to answer that question; this is a blog, not a dialogue.” Okay, it’s fancy music, guys. Moving, fancy music that will touch your heart. They’re also going out for drinks and frivolity afterward, so make sure you find out who was responsible for the aforementioned title.

Sun 7: Tipsy Scoop Store Grand Opening

Tipsy Scoop, 217 East 26th street, 12:00 PM – 9:00 PM, $ice cream
blog4Rrrrrgh, ice cream… I just had some delicious Graeters during a recent trip back to Cincinnati, and it really rocked my gourd. Only problem: it didn’t get me tanked, or even tipsy! Finally, fresh from Jesus’s noggin, comes Tipsy Scoop. Get there early- New Yorkers don’t mess around with openings, and the first 50 customers get swag.

Sun 7: NYC Vintage Classics

Grand Bazaar NYC, 100 West 77th Street, 10:00 AM – 5:30 PM, Free
blog6Yaaaay vintage clothes! Thrill to try on dresses in a size 900x larger than you wear in today’s sizes! Heck, that’s just my personal journey. Maybe instead you’ll enjoy finding purses from yesteryear, or just tasty food. It’s for a good cause! All the proceeds go toward neighborhood schools, so you can feel peachy keen dropping those bones for those teeny-tiny clothes.

Mon 8: Parsons Festival 2017 Opening Reception

Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Gallery, 66 5th Ave, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Free
blog7Parsons was ranked the best art and design school in New York in 2016, and consistently ranks one of the best in the world. Pop in and take a look at art from students from all over the world who have come to hone their craft.

Thurs 11: All About Eve with a Gibson Cocktail

Videology Bar & Cinema, 308 Bedford Ave, Brooklyn, $22 (price includes cocktail)
blog7All About Eve is a perfect movie. “But it’s in black and white,” you whine, clutching your smart technology. Can it, you millennials! Every line, every withering glance, its still-relevant message about the way we view aging women cuts through the screen with razor-sharp wit and skill. See it on the big(ish) screen.
