A little ice sculpting, a little Hanukkah and some aerialists, all to the sounds of Leonard Cohen washed down with beer, wine, and nog. Happy Holidays from all of us at Mesh!

But you don’t really go to Brooklyn, do ya?
Make an exception for this show,
The songs will be great, I’ll have you know.
You’ll definitely hear the one with Hallelujah
Sat 24: Gelty Pleasures – An Alternative Hanukkah Dance Party
Friends and Lovers 641 Classon Ave, Brooklyn, 10:00 PM – 4:00 AM, Free
IfNotNow is an organization seeking to “gain freedom and dignity for all Israelis and Palestinians,” and 15% of the profits from this night’s party go toward supporting their efforts. Focusing on themes of female empowerment, support of Jews of color, LGBTQ+, different class background… in other words, a rainbow of positivity. Dance and feel good about it.
Sat 24: House of Yes Misfit Christmas!
House of Yes, 2 Wyckoff Ave, Brooklyn, 10:00 PM – 4:00 AM, Free
Look, I’m going to spend Christmas eve in a twin bed next to my adult sister as we contemplate the error of eating that many butter cookies after 10:00 PM, but if I were in NYC I’d want to spend it with the misfits at House of Yes. Drink, dance away the night, and ring in Christmas with friendly folks who can do awesome things in the air.
Sun 25: Chinese and a Movie!
QED Astoria, 27-16 23rd Ave, Queens, 11:30 AM – 7:30 PM, Free
Since the days of Moses on the mountain, the Jewish people have treasured the sacred day of Chinese and a Movie. If that sounds good to you, and obviously it does because who wouldn’t like that, why not do it for approximately 900% less money than you’d spend seeing a movie at the AMC?
Sun 25: Christmas in the bosom of your loving family
Your house, 6:00 AM – 10:00 PM, The cost of presents (and presence)
If you have family, give ’em a hug. If you don’t, give some friends a hug. If you don’t have friends, maybe go volunteer and give a stranger a hug. If you hate strangers, I think I might know a green man on a mountain who might have some words of wisdom to share with you.
Mon 26: We Might Just Kiss: A Female Improv Event: 7:30pm & 9pm
Magnet Theater, 254 W 29th St, 7:30 PM/9:00 PM, $7
Ladies doing improv! Only ladies! This show is always a fun-filled blast, as women from different levels and classes play together on the stage for one night only. For this holiday special, it’s a double-header!
Thurs 29: Fake Church Holiday Spectacular
(le) poisson rouge 158 Bleecker St, 8:00 PM-9:30 PM, $10
Feeling guilty for skipping Christmas (or Hanukkah) service even though it made grandma cry? No worries, it’s time for fake church, the “fake religious service of a fake religion.” Enjoy a choir, kid’s section, sermon, and all the trappings of a religious ceremony, without the organist and children choir that’s always just a little (deafeningly) sharp and/or flat. They’ve got a killer cast, so buckle up and prepare to believe.
