Woohoooo!!! Lucky #100! As such, woohoo, what a mix of fun events we have for you this week! Some sporty stuff, some activist stuff, some theater stuff, some yummy stuff- only the best! Happy 100 to us!
Fri 27: Drink and play Ping Pong!
SPIN New York, 48 E 23rd St, 7:00 PM – 2:00 AM, Whatever you spend!
It’s a bar! It’s a music venue! It’s ping pong! Challenge your friends (or lovers) and enjoy the fun, lively atmosphere. Invite me! I’m terrible, so you’ll win!
Fri 27: NYC Eminem Appreciation Night
Hudson Terrace, 621 W 46th S, 11:00 PM – 3:o0 AM, $10/$15
Whether he was on the stage or in court, Eminem has always represented an ENORMOUS part of my childhood. Remember that time when all the Slim Shadeys (is that the plural?) danced all over that MTA stage? That’s how this night’s gonna go- lots of Eminem, lots of dancing, lots of nostalgia.
Sat 28: Saturday Matinee: New Year New Dyke Power
The Mockingbird, 25 Avenue B, 4:30 – 10:00 PM, $10
You may have noticed that it’s been a scary few days, and perhaps a good moment to spend money on a cause. This one is the Trans Justice Funding Project, which will probably need your support in the upcoming years. Check out some lectures, a film screening, a letter-writing project, and “speed friending,” which I assume is speed dating only everyone has already broken up and is just getting over it really maturely.
Sat 28: A Night of Philosophy and Ideas
Brooklyn Public Library, 10 Grand Army Plz, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, Free
It’s a flippin’ philosophy marathon! Check out some of the illustrious presenters to see if your intellectual curiousity is tickled, and head on over to one of New York’s most iconic buildings to expand your mind.
Sun 29: AntiGravity Restorative Yoga
ANYA 49 W 24th St, Fl 8th, 5:00 PM – 6:15 PM, $10
I actually have no idea what antigravity yoga is, but if it’s anything like that picture that they use on their event, it’s going to change your life and possibly turn you into a space angel. The proceeds from this yoga class support yoga4cancer, which supports cancer patients and survivors, so you’ll be an earth angel, too.
Sun 29: Post-March Postcard Party
Community Bookstore, 143 7th Ave, Brooklyn, 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
The march last week was amazing and moving, but it was just the start of the action. Come meet some fellow agitators, enjoy the free postcards and wine provided by the bookshop, browse the collection and support your local bookshop, and plan your next move.
Weds 1: Sake Nouveau Tasting
Uminoie, 86 E 3rd St, 7:00 PM – 12:00 AM, $20
Oooh, a fancy sake party! This is the first sake that was bottled this year, so it’s unfiltered and unpasturized. Lots of notes of things people who are much more sophistocated than I am will delite you, I assure you! Enjoy your tasting, a souvenir wooden tasting glass, and tasty Japanese hors d’oeuvres
Thurs 2: The Friendship Comedy Collective
Annoyance Theatre, NY 367 Bedford Ave, 9:00 PM, $10
Yay! A mid-week sketch show! Head on over to The Annoyance (you know you’ve been meaning to check them out anyway) to see some funny folks perform some funny sketches written by funny people, for a funny-low price!
